Comox "Crews" Small Boat Down Wind Event The Comox Valley is a fun place to paddle in the winter. Approximately 3 of 5 days have winds over 15 km h. There are several options for down wind shuttles depending on conditions. This year we have altered the format to an unsanctioned event that will take place one of 3 weekends in October or early November. We have also changed the focus from a downwind race to a downwind run. The local paddlers who are accustomed to these waters are committed to staying with and helping out inexperienced paddlers. Everyone is welcome to join in and the word will be spread via social media so feel free to pass on the information and extend the invitation to your friends. Our focus is on learning and experiencing bigger water in a safe environment where you can relax and have fun. Possible weekends are: Oct. 17th and 18th Oct. 24th and 25th Oct. 31 and Nov.1st For more information please see the "News Section" of this site.

Switchblade Relay 2014.05.21The Comox Valley had another great showing at the Switchblade Relay last weekend. Julie Kippen from Victoria stood in for Zoe this year who was on the injured reserve list. The caliber of the race has really stepped up with addition of a couple more olympians added to the group as well as a few more top athletes in the province. The top 3 teams finished within 3 minutes of each other making it tight until the end. CVCRC managed to pull off the victory for the 3rd year running with a 4:20.22 even though Jackie and I took a detour when we couldn't see the last turn marker before the final leg,,, again,,,, grrr,,,, ! The race was hosted by VCKC where we all converged on the deck and enjoyed some social time in the sun and dined on a roasted pig done on a spit in the front yard and ice cold bevies (thanks George). All in all a great day!
Crazy 8's 2014,03,15 The CVCRC had a strong showing at Crazy 8's. last weekend. We had a combined 16 CVCRC paddlers with a couple of imports from Victoria to round out for 2 Women's crews and 1 Men's crew for this race. The Wahini 1 and Whaini 2 teams finished 2nd and 3rd in the open Women Cat. and the men came home with a masters category win. The club then put together a mixed crew who also pulled off a Masters category win. In spite of the brutally cold and wet weather the Nanaimo held a great event as always and a good time was had by all.
Kan U Hakit Great racing in Victoria last weekend. The CVCRC women and men attended with one team each and combined for a mixed crew. Everyone nearly froze to death between heats but managed to thaw them selves out for the races and fell just short of the much younger Victoria hotshots with 3 silver medals, er, chocolate medals. 2013.11.08 - SAFETY FIRST It’s that time of year again, with muddy water at the boat ramp yesterday, to think about cold water safety. Our website's file section has the CORA Safety Manual which is our main safety reference. At the AGM I was asked to put together an addendum to this manual to cover some local hazards which are not discussed in the CORA manual. It is also listed in files. ... read more in News
